Author Feature: Tuesday Simon

Today, I'm delighted to welcome fantasy and YA urban fantasy author Tuesday Simon to the blog.

This is a brilliant interview that I enjoyed very much, so grab a cup of coffee and give it a read :)

Hey, Tuesday! Great to have you on the blog, thank you so much for joining me. Please introduce yourself and your books, and include one fun fact about you (or three very boring facts)

Hey there! I’m Tuesday Simon, the author of the cozy and twisty books that make readers feel seen, loved, and perhaps a little traumatized.

My first series is Through the Treeline classic fantasy with kingdoms, curses, and so much magic. It's completed with six books now, but actually a fun reimagining of my first book in that series is now on the way in 2026.

My current series is Oddities of Oaths, YA Urban Fantasy, with currently only one book available but at least three more on the way.

A fun fact about me is that I was born with only one lung, which inspired me to always write characters who use their weaknesses as their strengths.

Oh, that's interesting - and I love that it's inspired something in your characters! Speaking of your books, what tropes can readers espect to find in them?

Those are some fun tropes (and I'm super curious about the beaver people, I don't think I've met that one before...?!) But of course, books are far more than just tropes, so please describe your main characters in just five words each

Dylah (Through the Treeline) punchy, witty, cursed, tricky, wild

Axen (Through the Treeline) clever, handsome, inventor, merciful, supportive

Old Keilon (Through the Treeline) victorious, cunning, cursed, murderous, electrifying

Tennie (Oddities of Oaths) shy, resilient, protective, strategist, brave

Max (Oddities of Oaths) kind, talented, persistent, independent, reliable

They sound like a great set of characters! Something that's quite useful to do as an author is find comparisons, so please fill in the blanks: [Your book/series] is [book or film 1] meets [book or film two] with a dash of [whatever]

‘Curious Consequences of a Curse’ is ‘The Princess Bride’ meets ‘The Secret World of Arrietty’ with a dash of caffeine addiction.

Hah, love it. Okay, now for a slightly silly question: If your book were scratch-n-sniff, it would smell like…

‘Curious Consequences of a Curse’ definitely smells like coffee, lilacs, and trees.

‘Havoc Hewn into Heritage’ wafts with a musk of whiskey, petrichor, and blood.

‘Malice Made from Memory’ absolutely smells like leather and embers.

‘The 13 Likenesses of Tennie’ smells like carnival foods with heavy notes of cotton candy.

Very evocative! Many authors dream of seeing their books adapted for TV or film. If that happened with your books, who would be in your dream cast?

I’ve never been able to answer this question because whenever I dream of my books becoming films or shows, I always picture them exquisitely animated.

What a lovely answer, that sounds beautiful. Us writers spend a lot of time thinking aobut the worlds we've created, but if you could step into your book and join your own stories, would you? Why/why not?

Absolutely! The Through the Treeline series is mostly set in a forest kingdom and I could walk around those trees or through those musky castle halls for hours. Those characters in particular were given a lot of my own struggles, I'd love to sit around a fire with them and just commiserate over all we've been through together. We'd share some glasses of whiskey and hugs, but some of them would definitely try to fight me.

Same goes for the Oddities of Oaths series, the realm of Eylavast has a sugar river I’d love to float in, and leaves that taste like cereal marshmallows, it’s a sweet tooth’s daydream come to life! The Earth setting is actually based on my hometown in Kansas, so that’s no problem at all. My own teen shenanigans are twisted into those quirky scenes, even if I don't feel up to participating anymore, it'd still be fun just to watch the silliness and victories unfold.

It sounds like you've put a lot of your own experiences into your books, but I bet you've still done a loaf od research! What’s the weirdest thing you’ve researched for a book?

I had to research the machinations of various forms of city water towers. There’s a scene in ‘The 13 Likenesses of Tennie’ where Tennie has to go for a little swim in one, so a quick course in water storage and irrigation was quite necessary.

That is unusual! All right, Tuesday, it's time for you to take a break for a questions and let me borrow your main characters for a moment.

Hey, Dylah! Be honest; what do you think of your author?

Tuesday drinks almost as much coffee as me! But, she’s the reason why I’m always getting hurt, cursed, and heartbroken, so I’d probably punch her in the face if I ever escape these damn books.

Yeah, that seems fair, my characters would probably do the same to me. Hi, Axen! Your turn. What do you think of your author?

Tuesday is a nightmare, but she usually gives me the last line in every book after putting me through hell, so I guess I can’t complain that much. I wish she’d plan more, but I’m honestly never surprised that these wild plots always work out.

Just trust the process, and it'll all work out. Probably. Hey, Old Keilon! You're up. Be honest; what do you think of your author?

First of all, I think I’m only 26, the ‘old’ is only there to show that slightly unimportant detail that I was born 300 years ago, okay?

Tuesday is great, did she tell you that I’m actually her first main character and she started the Through the Treeline series because of ME? She might put me through hell, but I like her infinitely more than any of my own wives, and consider her to be a fellow chaotic soul. These compliments are in no way given in exchange for the many joyous battles she’s written for me or the wondrous three lives of calamity and chaos she’s let me live, though I am grateful.

You know what? It's nice to have a character actually happy about their author, that's pretty rare. Last but not least, it's Tennie! Be honest; what do you think of your author?

Honestly, I think Tuesday has this weird condition where she drinks too much caffeine, but it all goes to her imagination. Have you seen Eylavast? Have you met my Uncle Kit? Do you know about the beaver people?! C’mon! That’s WEIRD!!

I am just learning about the beaver people, but I may have to add your book to my TBR to find out what that's all about!

All right, gang, thanks for your help :)

Welcome back, Tuesday! It's always fun to see a few lines from an author's books, so please share:

  • The first line of your book

“What did she do this time?” - ‘Curious Consequences of a Curse’

  • A line without context that raises more questions than it answers

“Watch out for pescatarians, okay?” - ‘The 13 Likenesses of Tennie’

Yup, that definitely raises more questions than it answers!

We're nearly at the end now, and I've very much enjoyed getting to know more about your and your books. If people want to learn more, where can they find you and your books online?

I'm on Instagram and TikTok! My books are available on Amazon/Kindle Unlimited, you can buy them many other places, but c'mon, I make the most when readers purchase from Amazon.

Thank you so much for joining me, it's been a lot of fun! best of luck with your publishing adventures :)
