Hey, Sleuth!
Seeing as it's just us here, I thought I'd drop the third-person formalities and talk to you directly.
It's a bit friendlier that way, don't you think?
So, hey. I'm Saffron Amatti. I'm the author of weird little historical mysteries set in 1920s England, which are a cross between and Agatha Christie novel and Sixth Sense.
So, expect plenty of twists and turns, villains hidden in plain sight, and ghosts.
Why ghosts?
Well, it all started many moons ago when I was watching a TV show called Paranormal Detectives, and wondered what would happen if there was a police detective with psychic abilities. They'd be able to just ask the victim whodunnit, but would have to search out the evidence to prove it, whilst keeping their "gifts" secret.
I then remembered that I'm a) not a huge fan of police mysteries, and b) not nearly smart enough to pull off a Columbo-style mystery and make it interesting, so I switched my psychic sleuth, Lucas Rathbone, from police officer to journalist, so he still had an excuse to poke his nose where it doesn't belong.
I published my first Lucas story in 2019, and considering how many ideas I have jotted down in notebooks and on scraps of paper, all things being well, I'll be doing this for a long time yet!
So I hope you're enjoying them *crosses fingers*
My first series is the Lucas Rathbone Mysteries, which follows Lucas and his girlfriend Clara on a series of adventures across nine books. Along the way, they befriend Tommy Kilbourne and Noah Adams, and the four of them eventually decide to join forces and form a private investigation company - Beyond The Veil Detectives, which is also the title of my second series.
When I'm not writing mysteries, I'm often reading them (Agatha Christie is my go-to, but I also love other Golden Era mystery writers like Patricia Wentworth and Dorothy L. Sayers, as well as modern historical mystery writers like Boris Akunin, Ellis Peters, and Benedict Brown). I also read a bit of fantasy, some non-fiction, and occasionally a little sci-fi, but mystery has always been my first literary love.
And when I'm not reading or writing, you'll often find me in the garden, or knitting something (it always seems to be mittens, for some reason), or wandering around a beautiful stately home, or sketching.
Anyway, don't be a stranger! This has been a very one-sided conversation so far, and I'd love it if you'd say hi on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok, or send me an email at saffron.amatti@gmail.com :)
Oh, and speaking of emails, did you know I send out a monthly update full of behind the scenes stuff that doesn't make it to socials?
You'll also be the first to hear any exciting book news, like cover reveals, sneak peeks, and launch dates, AND I have a special welcome gift lined up for you.
It's a novella that takes place a few years before the Lucas Rathbone Mysteries starts, just after Clara moved to London. The country girl is overwhelmed by the big city, but is quickly befriended by handsome lovable rogue Tommy, and the pair find themselves entangled in a murder mystery. Anyway, I should probably stop writing this and get back to plotting murder (fictional only, I swear!), so I'll catch you later :)
Much love,
Saff xx
P.S. Here's the newsletter signup link again, in case you need it. It really is the best way to catch up with new releases and whatnot, and I'm also mildly in love with the cover I have on the signup gift, so you should go check out the page for that reason, if nothing else :)
